Top 5 Movies With Amazing Twists (Spoiler Free)

Twists are always entertaining and leave you in shock after you watch the movie. That's one of the reactions to show how good the movie is. For me, there are two kinds of them. The first one answers questions you've been storing in your head since you started watching. It might surprise you but not entirely unexpected. Why? Because along the way, you will probably try to guess what the answer is. Sometimes, your guess is right (It happened to me while watching Gone Girl). That way, it's not really surprising anymore, is it?  The second one is the best kind of twist because it gives you an answer to something you don't even pay attention to ask about. You will definitely not see this one coming and you will be left with utter shock.

To be honest, reading this post is probably already a spoiler for you. For me, the best way to watch a movie with unexpected twists is to not know that the movie has a twist. It definitely will surprise me even more. But for those who are just in the mood to watch this kind of movie and don't know what to watch first, I hope I can help you with this list.

1. FIGHT CLUB (1999)

PLOT: When an insomniac regular office worker crosses path with a soapmaker, they form a fight club that grows more and more from time to time, creating bigger effects than anyone expected.
WHY IS IT GOOD?
This movie is probably on every list about movies with amazing twists, and it deserves its place. The whole plot is good, the way the characters are shown is great, the way everything starts to become wider and creating bigger impact is realistic and enjoyable. Plus, no one saw the ending coming. Even though, it's the type one of twist, the movie answers the question you've been storing in your mind since you first started watching in the best way possible.

2. SHUTTER ISLAND (2010)

PLOT: Set in 1954, a detective is sent to investigate a murderer's disappearance in a hospital for the criminally insane whose location is in a remote island.
WHY IS IT GOOD?
Again, this movie probably is in almost every list about movies with amazing twists. But this is also included in type one of twist, you get the answer of a question you've been asking since the movie started. Thing is, it takes you everywhere before giving you the real answer. Like, creating false clues that you thought were right, then reveal that it's not true, thus creating other possibility. You can guess all you want, but you won't see the real truth coming. Watching this mystery movie means you have to think hard and pay attention to everything that's happening. So, prepare your mind, people.

3. ARRIVAL (2016)

PLOT: A linguist is recruited to try communicating with aliens who mysteriously landed on earth
WHY IS IT GOOD?
Instead of answering that question, I have to express other personal opinion and warning first: this movie is 80 percent boring. Not much is happening until the twist is revealed. I get kind of bored watching the first two-thirds of the movie. Thankfully the twist came and everything is beautiful again. And this is the second type of twist, it gives you an answer to a question you (probably mostly) didn't ask. There are definitely some questions but this is not the kind of answer you can predict. It's way further than what you expect, but somehow works and everything makes sense in the best way. I was in awe for almost a day after I finished watching it cause I couldn't believe how great the ending is. Plus, Amy Adams is exceptional. Sad she didn't get an Oscar nom that year :(

4. ATONEMENT (2007)

PLOT:  Famous writer Brionny Tallis tells a story of how her false accusation that she made when she was thirteen towards her sister's lover affected their lives throughout the years
WHY IS IT GOOD?
I've talked about why it's a must-see romance movie (see the full list here), but now it's time for the twist. This is the second type of twist, gives you answer to a question you didn't ask. To be honest, no one expected the movie to end that way. I didn't even expect there will be a twist, so the movie shocked me completely. It concludes everything and gives the story a finishing touch. The story itself is already interesting, so putting a twist in the end is a smart move to make it perfect entirely. If I talk about this even more, I might spoil too much, so I'll let you anticipate yourself. I can only guarantee you won't be disappointed.

5. WRECK-IT RALPH (2012)

PLOT: A video game villain wants to stop being the bad guy and become the hero instead. His journey then creates a mess in the whole arcade where he and dozens of other game characters live.
WHY IS IT GOOD?
Your first reaction seeing this movie on this list is probably, "What?!" Okay, yup, I know, not a typical one on a list like this. But to be honest, for me, this movie offers a twist I didn't expect. The ending doesn't only answer the question I stored in my head since the characters are introduced, but also a lot other questions I didn't ask. And I was in shock knowing the whole truth. I was completely blown away by that twist and have to spend at least ten minutes thinking about it and actually accept it. Really, not something I expected. Entertaining as an animation but satisfying like a good mystery movie.

To conclude: try not to think too much while watching these movies. That way, the ending will be even more unexpected. Enjoy!

Alien: Romulus

"While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe." -IMdB Title: ALIEN: ROMULUS Year:  2024  Directed By:   Fede Álvarez   Written By:  Fede Álvarez, Rodo Sayagues  Duration:  1h 59m  Genre:  Horror, Sci-fi   Starring:  Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu  Language:  English  Score:  9/ 10 When the teaser trailer first dropped, it was quite clear this Alien film might just be the breath of fresh air that the franchise needs. It promised horror, it promised suspense, and man, oh man, does it deliver!  WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT? 1. BRINGING BACK THE CLASSIC ALIEN GENRE Which is horror in a sci-fi setting. Director Fede Álvarez is a major fan of Alien and he knows very well about what makes the film work in the first place. It was scary and tense,...

The Meg

"After escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible" -IMDb Title:  THE MEG Year:  2018  Directed By:  Jon Turteltaub   Written By:  Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, Eric Hoeber Duration:  1 hour 53 minutes  Genre: Action, Thriller, Monster Movie   Starring:  Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson  Language:  English  Score:  5/ 10 Originally, I don't want to watch this movie. But because this is the only popular one playing in cinemas that I haven't watched, I eventually did watch it. The Meg is somehow enjoyable but stays in that middle area where it's not good enough to be considered a great movie, but has a chance of falling to the bad-movie-area.  WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT? 1. THE SUSPENSE AND JUMPSCARE There is almost no shark movie without suspense and jumpscare. They're like the whole poi...

What We Do In The Shadows

"A few documentary crews were allowed to film a group of ancient vampire's activities for a few months." Title:  WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Year:  2014  Directed By:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement  Written By:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement   Duration:  1 hour 26 minutes  Genre:  Mockumentary, Comedy, Horror  Starring:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Jonny Brugh  Language:  English  Score: 9.5 /10 So, this is quite an underrated indie-comedy. The language is English but it's from New Zealand, so you'll hear an English accent you don't hear very often. I've heard of the movie and saw the trailer once but I've forgotten about it. I decided to watch it out of curiosity and the awesome reviews it recieved. Also, because it's co-written, co-directed, and co-starred by Taika Waititi a.k.a Thor: Ragnarok director. Well, thankfully it didn't disappoint me at all as I ended up having really great laugh fo...
