Title: DEADPOOL 2

Year: 2018 Directed By: David Leitch Written By: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Ryan Reynolds Duration: 1 hour 59 minutes Genre: Superhero, Action, Comedy Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz Language: English Score: 6.5/10

First of all, I know it's a little too late to make this review, considering of how long the movie has been playing in the cinema. Sadly I haven't had the time to watch it, so here I am, writing this review after watching it in the (almost) third week of its release. And even though this review is not so important anymore, at least I can finally write a review again hehe so thank you very much to those who are reading this. And all of my other posts.

Okay, so another most anticipated movie this year, I suppose. They totally owe that to the marketing team doing such a great job sparking interest everywhere. From the Celine Dion music video to the David Beckham clip, and much more. But sometimes super great marketing means the actual movie isn't as good. Is Deadpool 2 like that? Well, let's break it down.

WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT?

1. THE COMEDY

Praise The Lord the jokes are still as good as the first Deadpool. Some are even better now that DP can use more Avengers jokes (don't worry, no spoiler), thanks to Infinity War. There are a lot general jokes that everyone will understand and there are fans jokes that can only be understood by those who've watched all the X-Men movies, some of MCU movies, and some old classic movie. Even though it's not extremely amazing that it'll give you non-stop laughs, it's definitely the best part of the movie that'll make you want to stay and watch more.

2. MR. DEADPOOL HIMSELF

He's one of a kind and he's the star. Having him on the screen is one of your motivation to watch this movie. Ryan Reynolds did an amazing job potraying him, giving us the Deadpool we all adore. His characteristics, his dialogues, his jokes, and his actions are the things that attract people to watch this movie. And really, he doesn't disappoint.

3. CAMEOS AND REFERENCES

I'm not going to spoil who showed up and who don't. I'm also not going to spoil Deadpool's jokes. All I can say is that it'll hype you.

WHAT'S NOT GOOD ABOUT IT?

1. THE WHOLE PLOT

Ah, sad to say we're already on this section, but I'm being honest here. The plot somehow seems not interesting enough and unfocused. If you remove all the jokes and the action, this question might pop in your head: "Is that all?". I think a little more twist would do the plot better, because it's quite flat and simple, only crammed with jokes. It'll only leave you feeling so-so towards it with a little spice of boredom. Plus, there are some moments that I think can be removed or changed to make the story not too long or too much. To be honest, it's not very surprising, because the first Deadpool, to me, is also a little like this. That "Is that all?" question also popped into my head back then. Clearly, the jokes saved it.

2. CHARACTERS

Most of the characters aren't as interesting as Deadpool or the other characters from the first movie, but that's not why it's in this section. I think they introduce a lot of new characters and new sides of the recurring characters but don't explore them enough. There are some very interesting casting too, but sadly most of them aren't explored enough after being shown briefly. Even the recurring characters don't seem to have enough show time, for me. I understand that Deadpool and Cable are the stars, but after introducing so many new characters in the trailer, I think they deserve to be shown a lot more. Or if you don't want to, maybe it's not the right move to introduce so many in the first place.

WHAT'S SO-SO ABOUT IT?

1. THE MUSIC

They chose so many classic and anti-mainstream music to be played during the action scenes. And of course it boosts the funniness. But, then again, you've seen this pattern in the first movie. Plus, they do this through almost the movie, so by the end, you're probably not laughing as hard as you were during the first scenes. Still, a great move to make this movie even more unique!

2. THE SUB-GENRE

I don't mention this genre at the beginning of this post, but there is a little sub-genre in this action comedy movie. I won't say it's drama because it's not that drama, but close. It's more of a moral message about family and love. I suppose they do this because if it's only funny and violent, then what's this movie teaching? Slipping a moral message throughout the movie is a good move. A lot of other superhero movies do that, so I agree that it's necessary. But I think the moral message pass just like that and not remembered perfectly. It's probably because compared to all the jokes and the actions (violence) they do, the moral message isn't strong enough. Plus, it's too rushed for Deadpool to change like that considering the pace of the story.

Alright, so that's all that I can say about Deadpool. Overall, it's still a very watchable movie because of the comedy and action, but don't expect too much with the depth of the story.

Alien: Romulus

"While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe." -IMdB Title: ALIEN: ROMULUS Year:  2024  Directed By:   Fede Álvarez   Written By:  Fede Álvarez, Rodo Sayagues  Duration:  1h 59m  Genre:  Horror, Sci-fi   Starring:  Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu  Language:  English  Score:  9/ 10 When the teaser trailer first dropped, it was quite clear this Alien film might just be the breath of fresh air that the franchise needs. It promised horror, it promised suspense, and man, oh man, does it deliver!  WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT? 1. BRINGING BACK THE CLASSIC ALIEN GENRE Which is horror in a sci-fi setting. Director Fede Álvarez is a major fan of Alien and he knows very well about what makes the film work in the first place. It was scary and tense,...

The Meg

"After escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible" -IMDb Title:  THE MEG Year:  2018  Directed By:  Jon Turteltaub   Written By:  Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, Eric Hoeber Duration:  1 hour 53 minutes  Genre: Action, Thriller, Monster Movie   Starring:  Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson  Language:  English  Score:  5/ 10 Originally, I don't want to watch this movie. But because this is the only popular one playing in cinemas that I haven't watched, I eventually did watch it. The Meg is somehow enjoyable but stays in that middle area where it's not good enough to be considered a great movie, but has a chance of falling to the bad-movie-area.  WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT? 1. THE SUSPENSE AND JUMPSCARE There is almost no shark movie without suspense and jumpscare. They're like the whole poi...

What We Do In The Shadows

"A few documentary crews were allowed to film a group of ancient vampire's activities for a few months." Title:  WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Year:  2014  Directed By:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement  Written By:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement   Duration:  1 hour 26 minutes  Genre:  Mockumentary, Comedy, Horror  Starring:  Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Jonny Brugh  Language:  English  Score: 9.5 /10 So, this is quite an underrated indie-comedy. The language is English but it's from New Zealand, so you'll hear an English accent you don't hear very often. I've heard of the movie and saw the trailer once but I've forgotten about it. I decided to watch it out of curiosity and the awesome reviews it recieved. Also, because it's co-written, co-directed, and co-starred by Taika Waititi a.k.a Thor: Ragnarok director. Well, thankfully it didn't disappoint me at all as I ended up having really great laugh fo...
