This is another movie that I've never heard of but decided to watch because a Youtube video recommended it. It's not a huge budget movie and pretty underrated. But this is definitely something worth watching because of the story, suspense, character development, and Claire Foy's on point acting.
WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT?
1. CLAIRE FOY
To be honest, I've only heard about how good she is but have never watched her performance. So this is the first one and thankfully I wasn't disappointed at all. Her acting really fills the whole movie, making it 'alive'. She portrays the character very well, being the tough woman the character should be. It is thriller but you can hardly see her get scared like how usual characters do on thriller movies. Instead, you get the bad ass female lead.
2. FIRST PARTS OF THE STORY
The first parts leave you wondering, questioning, asking, and constantly looking for answer. This is a very good move as it pulls you to be interested to the story. You're questioning whether the main character is really insane or she was actually right about everything. This creates expectations for some really twisted answers.
3. THE SHOTS
The director shot the whole movie with iPhone 7. Some critics say this isn't a good move since some of the shots look blurry or aren't clear enough because the camera isn't very good when it comes to shooting in dark rooms. Personally, I enjoy it and it doesn't bother my eyes at all. I find the shots quite unique. They aren't as complicated as most high budget movies are but they are simply enough to show you what's going on. Limited but enough.
4. SOME CHARACTERS DEVELOPMENT
There are some character developments and interactions that I think are very good, natural, and interesting. They make you notice other supporting characters that complete the story, not just Claire Foy's character.
WHAT'S NOT GOOD ABOUT IT?
1. THE FINAL ENDING
This means the last 3-5 minutes of the movie before the end credit starts rolling. I understand the meaning of the very last scene but I think it's not filled with enough information to answer everything. The point is, there are still a few questions left unanswered for me.
WHAT'S SO-SO ABOUT IT?
1. THE ANSWER
Nope, I'm not going to talk about the answer but about how good/bad the answer is. So, relax, no spoiler.
Like I said before, the movie starts greatly with a big question of who is actually right. But sadly, you've probably already figured out the answer in the middle of the movie, without much surprise included. I don't say it's bad because the suspense continues even after you find out about it. You'll also feel somehow satisfied with the revealed truth. But it's just not as fascinating as before. You will finally realize that you were expecting more after you're done watching it.
2. OTHER CHARACTERS DEVELOPMENT
Some characters have good developments and interactions but there are some who aren't as good. I cannot talk about it too much or else I'll spoil the beans. But the main point is that this so-so character development doesn't bring down the whole movie. It's just a small factor that takes a few point from the movie's perfect score. It's still enjoyable but if you notice it, it might reduce a bit of your interest.
